
The Port of Huntsville values opportunities to give back to the community, and even with constraints placed on most activities by the presence of the COVID pandemic, FY21 was a year of giving back and getting involved for our staff and organization.
- Front Tier Workers
To recognize the valiant efforts of frontline workers during the pandemic, POH gave away 100 round-trip tickets to Orlando on Frontier Airlines. Healthcare workers and first responders were nominated by friends, family and peers for the tickets via the Front Tier Heroes contest. Read more here - Singing River Trail
The Port of Huntsville is included as a stop on the proposed 150-mile Singing River Trail that will span North Alabama from East to West and will provide recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. Two projects at HSV were added to the SRT master plan with an especially green component: Millings collected during the repaving of runway 18R/36L were set aside to provide surface material for the hiking and biking trail. In partnership with Junior League of Huntsville, the Port of Huntsville placed awareness signage in all facility restrooms to provide aid to victims of human trafficking. POH employees and tenants underwent training utilizing the Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign protocol, “See Something, Say Something.” This national campaign raises public awareness of suspicious activity and the importance of reporting the activity to local law enforcement including the POH Public Safety team. POH employee contributions and fundraising for the annual United Way Campaign totaled $14,293 for FY21. - POH Customer Service Awards Recognition
Each quarter, one tenant nomination and one airport employee nomination are selected to receive awards for outstanding Customer Service. Other Community Partnerships
-HSV is a feature exhibit sponsor of the Cook Museum of Natural History in Decatur, Alabama
-HSV hosted two exhibits of works by local artists in the Airport Artway and the Community Art Wall in partnership with Carnegie Arts Center of Decatur.
