Covid 19 Impact

The COVID-19 pandemic continued to impact all aspects of operations at HSV. From continually evolving guidance on safe and healthy travel to the temporary FDA approval of a vaccine, the airport pivoted continually to accommodate air travelers.

Leisure travel began to boom in late FY21 as passengers felt more comfortable flying for vacation and family visits. Factors including more individuals receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, greater emphasis by airlines on cleaning and disinfecting, as well as the TSA mandate requiring masks on flights and in terminals contributed to passenger confidence. HSV responded with extra care taken to preserve safe, sanitary conditions for travelers in our terminal.

Because of the watchful stewardship of Port of Huntsville leadership, our employees were spared layoffs and furloughs during lean times. HSV showed mindfulness of and appreciation for frontline workers by giving away 100 Frontier airline tickets to “Front Tier Heroes.” The promotion provided pairs of tickets to Orlando to 50 frontline workers and also recognized Frontier for continuing to offer air service during trying times.
